NHS time runs at a whole different speed!!

Well, having spent a whole day sat by the phone waiting for the district nurse to call to arrange a time to come and disconnect my condom bottle, I've just had a call from them - they're coming at 7!! My chemo nurse at St George's deserves a medal for being my go between today - thanks Bridget!!

Do you think I can forward my credit card bill to Wandsworth district nursing team as while waiting I've spent some ££ online!???!! ;-)

One thing I have done is to sign up for a free trial from audible thanks to a great tip from Yogi Clare (if you're reading this Clare, I hope you don't mind the description, but I know a few Clares / Claires). She has suggested listening to books whilst taking a walk each day for an hour. That way there's more incentive to go out the next day to find out what happens next! Great tip if you ask me!! I was going to start today, but was sitting by the phone - for some reason the hospital doesn't ever call my mobile, even though they have the number!!

Oh and by the way, the condom is now looking rather empty and limp inside its babies bottle!! ;-))

Take care world

OK, I need to put the credit card away and step away from the computer!!! A bit too much internet shopping has been done today and then the credit card bill email arrives in my inbox!!! Oops! It was all essential stuff though! Honest! ;-)

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Which is which?

I know which I would prefer!!! Warning this photo shows my line

More bruises already!!!

Well my upper left arm was obviously feeling left out when comparing bruises with my upper right arm - nearly stacked it down the stairs on the bus this afternoon and used my left upper arm to stop my fall. I could have stopped my fall earlier with my right hand, but didn't want to drop my Chloe handbag on the floor!! I didn't even take my PICC line or condom bottle, as it will forever be known, into account!

How much mischief can I get into over the next 12 weeks?!?! As they say, watch this space ....

;-)

Here we go again!

Hi everyone!

My intention with this blog is to record my adventures of going through chemo, for the second time around, documenting all the comedy moments I will inevitably get into as well as the highs and lows of this second chemo encounter (thanks Jo for the blog name idea). Generally I am someone who is self depricating and takes the piss out of myself, so hopefully this blog will be full of humour. I'm sorry if the blog (and more specifically the language) upsets or offends anyone, but that's who I am and if you don't like it tough! ;-)

Anyway, here's a bit more of the story so far:

Having found out that I've most likely got a secondary tumour on my liver (I'll still not seen the liver specialist or had any biopsies or anything on it, but what can it be really?!) I am now undergoing chemo again! The plan at the moment is to have 12 weeks of chemo, then most likely have a liver resection to remove the section that has the tumour in it, followed by 12 more weeks of chemo.

This time I have a PICC line in - running from the top of my right arm and then through to next to my heart - gives me the colly wobbles still a bit thinking about that too much! This means no more needles!!! Yay!!! As someone with awful small veins and a fear of needles, this is like the best news (given the circumstances!). Yesterday I had my oxyplatin infusion in the hospital and was hooked up with my 5FU pump. So far this has been working well and I am wandering around with my little condom in a babies bottle (the pump) in it's little pouch on a belt!! Here it is:

So far the side effects have not been as bad as last time - only a little bit of cold sensitivity and nausea, but not the pain I was in at the injection site or the general sensitivity to touch. The side effects will be cumulative though so it may be that some others kick in with time. Oh well, I've got through it before and I'll get through it again! I have my ways of adapting and these tricks will come out again. Here's how I got through holding the glass ramekin holding my cheesecake last night:

Michael Jackson stylie single glove!! he he he

Anyway, my house-elf / sister Sarah has make me lunch - can't get things out of the fridge at the mo - honest! ;-) so it's time for me to sign off.

Take care world
